Sarajevo is the capital of Bosnia & Herzegovina, located on the Miljacka river it reflects the uniqueness of this country, the coexistence of different cultures and the interplay of influences of east and west on architecture, lifestyles and cuisine.
Sarajevo’s historic center starts at the Eternal Flame, that commemorates the city’s liberation in 1945, down Ferhadija street, the Capital’s longest pedestrian street. A walk along Ferhadija is a journey through historical periods that formed Sarajevo.
Monuments and buildings to be seen: Gradska Trznica, Freedom Square, New Orthodox Church, Army House, Sacred Heart Cathedral, Ferhadija Mosque, old Synagogue, Bascarsija the well known Ottoman market place, Bezistan, Gazi Husrev-Bey Mosque, Clock tower, Gazi Husrev-Bey Library, Kursumlija Madresa, The Sebilj and the famous Town Hall, The House of Spite, The Czar’s Mosque and bridge, the Latin Bridge, the National Theatre and the Art Academy.
